b.2.b. DETAILED SUPPLICATIONS PERTAINING TO THE MEDITATION

There are six specific supplications pertaining to the meditation that is described above. The first prayer refers to calm abiding (Tib. shi né), and the second to special or vivid insight (Tib. lhag tong). The third describes the way of seeing in the state of special insight during the post-meditative phase. The fourth prayer illustrates the simultaneous presence (Tib. sung jug) or union of calm abiding and special insight. The fifth refers to what is called “experience” (Tib. nyam), in that it represents a sense of accomplishment or achievement. It can be said to be a glimpse of realization. The sixth describes the actual achievement or realization itself (Tib. tog pa). It is quite exciting to have the type of meditation experience called nyam, while the actual realization is far less exciting.
